Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational qualification
You must have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination in the Science stream, or an equivalent examination in the General stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics.
Under the norms of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), you must have passed 10+2 from an approved or recognised Board or University. You can read more about these norms on the official Pharmacy Council of India website.
2. Age limit
You must complete 17 years of age on or before 31 December 2026. The application form asks for your age as on 31.12.2026, so calculate it carefully.
3. Residence
The seats are for bonafide candidates residing in the G.T.A. areas, meaning Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. The form also asks whether you are a permanent resident of the hill areas and, if yes, for how many years.
How Candidates Are Selected
Selection is purely merit based. There is no separate entrance test mentioned in the notification.
- Candidates are ranked on total marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology (whichever is higher) at the H.S. (10+2) or equivalent examination.
- Candidates must have passed both theory and practical separately in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics.
- Tie-breaking order:
- Higher marks in Chemistry
- Then higher marks in Physics
- Then higher marks in Mathematics or Biology (whichever is higher)
- If still tied, the older candidate gets the higher merit position
Tip: Because Chemistry is the first tie-breaker, double-check the Chemistry marks you enter in your application.
Domicile Certificate: Who Can Issue It
This is the part where many applicants make mistakes. The notification is strict about who may issue your domicile or residential certificate. It must be issued in original, in the format given as Proforma a1.

- Sub-divisional Officer or Block Development Officer

Tips to Avoid Rejection
- Get the domicile certificate first. It is the most time-consuming document, and the wrong issuing authority means rejection.
- Check the date in the certificate. It must show continuous residence in West Bengal for at least ten years as on 31.12.2025.
- Do not submit a certificate from a councillor, panchayat member, MLA or MP.
- Attest the photographs and sign the candidate’s box in front of the certifying authority.
- Keep photocopies of the full application and the postal receipt or courier tracking number.
- Enter marks exactly as in the mark sheet. A mismatch can be treated as false information.
- Check the official notice on the Darjeeling district website and Kalimpong district website for any corrigendum.
