Sikkim is a Himalayan state in India’s north-east. Its capital is Gangtok, and it includes Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak (8,586 m). Khangchendzonga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, covers about a third of the state. Most visitors arrive via Siliguri and NJP, or by air at Pakyong (opened October 2018, about 30 km from Gangtok) or Bagdogra (about 124 km). Some areas need restricted-area permits, and monsoon landslides can disrupt roads, so check conditions before you travel.
