Kurseong College is a Government aided institute of West Bengal State and affiliated to the University of North Bengal .
Kurseong College was established on 17th of August, 1967, Initially the college was a night college and a good number of students were enrolled in pre-university Arts, pre-university Commerce and B.A. 1st Year.
There will be reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/Differently Able Candidates as per Govt. Rules. For differently – able candidates minimum disability at least 40% will be considered.

Classes were conducted in Kakina House. Later, the college acquired Haridas Copse, the present site of the college campus where a new building was constructed and then shifted to the New Building in 1977.
The terms of appointment of teaching and non-teaching faculty and their salaries are governed by the guidelines framed by the Government of West Bengal. The overall academic matters are controlled by the University of North Bengal.
Kurseong College is included under Section 2(f)/12(B) of (University Grants Commission )UGC Act of 1956. as the college is eligible to receive central assistance (UGC grant) under Section 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956 as per approved pattern of assistance under various schemes. UGC provides financial assistance to the college which are included under Section 2(f) .
Kurseong College, a co-educational institute of higher learning with all the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce, was established in the year 1967 with an objective of providing undergraduate level education to the people of Kurseong Sub-Division and the surrounding areas of hills, Terai and Dooars.
The motto of the College since its inception has always been “Akash tira Pakheta Chalon, Prithvi Basera”, which literally means “Spread your wings with your feet on the earth”. The college is pledged to provide quality education to help our students excel in life and become successful as well as good human beings.
As a Govt.-aided college recognized by UGC and affiliated to University of North Bengal, Kurseong College always tries to keep the spirit of academics high and become the best place of higher education in the “Land of White Orchids”, i.e. Kurseong.
FACILITY : Kurseong College
- The Library housed in a 3 storey building with a spacious Reading Room for the students needs a special mention.
- The Library houses the books within academic curriculum along with the collections from the local culture and dialects.
- Also the journals and periodicals for teachers and researchers have been given due place in the collection.
- Today there are more than 21,000 books in the College library.
- The students’ book ratio stands approximately at 1:21 which is very healthy.
Kurseong College has opened the Girls’ Hostel from this session (2016-17).
Girl candidates who desire hostel accommodation must indicate this in the space specified in the college online application form.

- The College has well equipped and maintained laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Geography and computer lab for Mathematics.
- College canteen provides the students with hygienic quality food products at moderate rate under the guidance and vigilance of Canteen Sub-Committee.
ACTIVITIES KURSEONG COLLEGE
- NCC unit of the College has always been active and both boys and girls are faring well in all the training camps.
- The NCC unit also actively participates in the Independence Day and Republic Day parades at Kurseong, and other activities such as blood donation, tree plantation, AIDS awareness rally, slum clearance, disaster management & relief and other social schemes.
- The College NCC unit is under the 5 Bengal Battalion of NCC, Darjeeling.
- Students and faculty members of the College participate in extension activities organized by the NSS wing of the College.
- Tree plantation, anti-malarial campaigns, AIDS awareness, literacy drives etc. are conducted by the NSS in order to promote the participation of students and faculty in extension activities.
ANNUL FOUNDATION DAY AT KURSEONG COLLEGE
- Annual Foundation Day is celebrated on 17th August every year. The Programme includes a mix of cultural and modern performances from the students and is a good platform for young talents.
- College Magazine is a medium for the students to express their creative talents in the form of poems, stories and other write ups.
- Sports in the college is organized every year to showcase the sporting skills of students in various indoor and outdoor games.
- The College also sends the students to several inter college sporting events. # There are options of other co-curricular activities including debate, quiz etc.
- Subjects taught in the College and subject combinations in both Honours and General for B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.
- Candidates are allowed to apply for Arts or Science or Commerce stream based on the subjects appeared in Class XII Examination.

Semester (General Programme) i. English
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS KURSEONG COLLEGE :
- Honours Programme Course: A student shall be allowed to take admission in the Honours Programme Course of B.A. /B.Sc. /B.Com. if he/ she has passed in at least four (04) subjects excluding Environmental Studies with English as compulsory subject in the Higher Secondary [10+2] Examination held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any other Examination which is recognized by the University as equivalent thereto Provided that a candidate who has obtained-
- (a) 55% marks in the aggregate, or
- (b) 50% in the aggregate with 60% marks in a subject in the last qualifying Examination shall be eligible to apply for Honours Programme in that subject. Admission shall however be on merit and availability of seats.
- A SC/ST Candidate who has obtained - (a) 50% marks in the aggregate, or (b) 45% in the aggregate with 60% marks in a subject in the last qualifying Examination shall be eligible to apply for Honours Programme in that subject. Provided further that in matter of eligibility 54.5% marks or above shall be equal to 55%, 49.5% and above shall be equal to 50% and 59.5 marks or above shall be equal to 60%.
- b) Programme Course: A student shall be allowed to take admission in the Programme Course of B.A. /B.Sc. /B.Com. if he/ she has passed in at least four (04) subjects excluding Environmental Studies with English as compulsory subject in the Higher Secondary [10+2] Examination held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any other Examination which is recognized by the University as equivalent thereto.
- A candidate shall be allowed to pursue B.A. / B. Sc. / B. Com Programme Course if he/ she have passed the qualifying Examination in Vocational Stream subjects.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up B.Com. Honours Programme/ Programme Course if he/ she has studied Science subjects along with Maths in the previous qualifying exams.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up Chemistry Subject if he/she has passed in Mathematics and Physics along with Chemistry and other subject as prescribed at the qualifying examination.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up Zoology Subject if he/ she has passed in Biology at the qualifying examination.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours Programme in Economics as if he / she has passed in Mathematics or Business Economics including Business Mathematics and other subjects as prescribed at the qualifying examination.
- No student other than those of Science stream and Economics / Geography of Arts stream shall be allowed to take Science subjects as Generic Elective Subjects.
- No student of Honours Programme in Arts and Commerce stream other than those of Geography and Economics shall be allowed to take Science subjects as Generic Elective Subjects.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up Geography subject as Honours Programme/ Programme Course if he / she has passed in Geography with other subjects at the qualifying examination.
- A candidate pursuing Honours in a subject shall not be allowed to take up the same subject as Generic Elective.
- A candidate pursuing Honours Programme Course in a Language subject will be allowed to take another Language subject as a Generic Elective Subject.
