The (SUMI) Scottish Universities Mission Institution of Kalimpong, West Bengal is one of the reputed and oldest educational institution in the District of Kalimpong which has crossed more than around 180 years old .The Institution plays a vital role in providing quality education in Darjeeling and its surrounding areas like Bhutan, Sikkim,Nepal; and Bengal.

How did The (SUMI) Scottish Universities Mission Institution of Kalimpong came to existence.

 (SUMI) Scottish Universities Mission Institution of Kalimpong was established in February 1887 by the effort of William Macfarlane, a Scottish highlander who came to India in 1865 , He first visited Gaya and came to Darjeeling in the year 1870 where he started evangelical mission at Darjeeling.

 During is period of visit to Darjeeling the missionary association like St. Andrews and Aberdeen , Edinburgh, Glasgow showed their interest for the establishment of the same in Darjeeling hills also and Rev. Macfarlane proposed for the the institution as a result of which the Foreign Mission Committee approved the proposal in 2nd of March 1886.
