Mungerzung or Mungsong: A Hidden Gem in the Eastern Himalayas

Despite its stunning beauty, Mungerzung has remained largely unexplored. It even served as a backdrop for the film “Chalo - Let’s Go,” yet somehow it didn't find its way onto the tourist map. However, for those fortunate enough to venture here, a peaceful haven awaits. The village, perched atop a hill, provides limited accommodation options but boasts some of the best vistas the region has to offer.

One of the highlights is the opportunity to witness a breathtaking sunrise against the backdrop of the Kanchenjungha range. On clear days, the view from Mungerzung surpasses even that from Tiger Hill. What's more, you can roam around without worrying about leeches – a unique advantage. Situated just 5 kilometers away from Sillery and a few more from Eechheygaon, Mungerzung also offers proximity to attractions like Burmaik Mahadev Dham, Cinconha Plantation, and Deolo Viewpoint. Don't forget to explore the vibrant Kalimpong Market as well.

Accommodation choices are somewhat limited, but we consider ourselves fortunate to have stayed at a homestay nestled at the edge of a mountain. The hotel room offered us a splendid view of the majestic Kanchenjungha and the meandering Teesta River below. Additionally, the homestay has a cozy viewpoint – a personal oasis where you can take in a panoramic view that stretches from Darjeeling on one side to Sikkim on the other. There's also a charming open cottage area where you can cherish special moments all day long.

Mungerzung, a true hidden treasure, invites you to escape the ordinary and embrace the tranquility and beauty of the Eastern Himalayas.
