Darjeeling Hills Emerging as a Hub for Women's Football

Three Darjeeling Hills Players Shine in Bengal Women's Football Team at National Games

Long celebrated for producing talented male footballers, the Darjeeling Hills are now making a mark in women's football as well. This was evident in the recently concluded National Games in Uttarakhand, where three young players from the region played a key role in securing a bronze medal for the West Bengal team.

The trio—Palmu Tamang from Mirik, along with Sushanna Rai and Supriya Gurung from Kalimpong—are all 19 years old and currently honing their skills at the Debanjan Share Girls' Academy (DSGA) in Kalimpong. Their achievement signals the growing prominence of female footballers from the Hills on the state and national stage.

With growing opportunities for female footballers—such as government job placements through the sports quota and prospects of playing for international clubs—the future of women's football in the Darjeeling Hills looks exceptionally bright. As more tournaments are introduced, the region is poised to become a powerhouse for women's football in India.
