Darjeeling has been selected for the National Award for Excellence 2012 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS) for the year 2012. Along with Darjeeling 6 other districts from India has been selected for the Excellence award.Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh will give away the prize on 2nd Feb 2013 in New Delhi .
