Meghetar is the new upcoming tourists destination  situated at an altitude of 1750m  in village called Samalbong , locally known as upper Samalbong ,under Pul-Bijanbari Development block in the District of Darjeeling. The beautiful hamlet is at a distance of 40 km from the Darjeeling town. If you are looking for a village tourism and a picnic spot away from all the noisy environment Meghetar is the the perfect place for you to spend your vacation and have some good time. This spot is still under construction however roads , car parking , canteens has already been completed.


Best time to visit :

The best time to visit Meghetar is from October to January . During October the distant places are clear , where you can have the mesmerizing view of Kanchenjunga and other surrounding places.

Climate : The place is moderate in Climate however its little cold during winter season you should keep warm cloths if you have plans to visit the place in winter.

How to Reach Meghetar :

In order to reach Meghetar  you have to take a car or bus from Darjeeling town, if you take a bus it will cost you Rs. 65 per person up to Kainjalia Bazaar. and in small vehicles like spacio/tata sumo its Rs. 120 per person till Kainjalia Bazaar. There are two routes to reach the place, one is Via Ghoom , you will get to see several beautiful tea estates on the way , tea estates like Marybong , Lizahill, Chongtong , Lingia , Rhishihaat.


Other route is via Singmari  to Jamuney. You will not get bus service if you take this route, as the road is small and narrow. Only small car and vehicles like tata sumo can ply but travelling via this route is also enjoyable . You will also get to see tea estates on the way like Tukver tea estate. The added advantage of this route is that  another new tourists destination Jamuney falls on the way.

Jamuney is also gaining popularity as its easy to reach and beautiful. There is a small river where you can do fishing and swimming. Every year the department of Tourism (GTA) organizes agriculture mela to promote and inspire local farmers . During the inauguration of the   spot, famous bollywood icons like Sonu Nigam , Usha Uthup and several others bollywood artists were present.

Both the routes meets at Pulbazar ,  Its a small hamlet where the famous river Chota Rangit flows. From Pulbazar you have to travel 8 kilometers upwards towards Kainjalia via Bijanbari. Once you reach Kainjalia Bazaar you have to again travel upwards about 5 km to finally reach Meghetar. You have to book a cab from here as there is no local taxi service.

Where to stay :

There are two options : either you can stay at Bijanbari Bazaar , there are several hotels and lodges at Bijanbari Bazaar but among them Tin-Tin Lodge and Restaurant is the best place to eat and stay, the hotel is beautifully furnished and the quality of food is very good and affordable. Other option is Lamagaon Homestay , its just near by Kainjalia Bazaar and is the good option to stay because its located just near by Meghetar.

What can you expect from the Meghetar Tourists Spot :

This place is completely away from the town you will get time to be close to the nature, You can view Kanchenjunga, Phalut , parts of Sikkim like Jorethang and many villages of Darjeeling. Bird watching is also possible in the area.

Shiva Mandir and Mata Dham : There is a old Mata Dham  and a newly constructed Shiva Mandir.
